Free Thank You Notes for Colleagues or Employees That Are Leaving or Being Promoted

Use one of these free thank you notes for

a colleague or subordinate who has been recently promoted or wooed away by a new company.

As a rule, you'll want to let the tone of your note reflect the tone of your relationship.

However, it's a good idea to keep jokes to a minimum, even if you know the person fairly well.

What you think is hilarious may offend someone else.

Let cordiality and sincerity be your guides here.

If you especially enjoyed working with the person, say so. You may never have the chance again.

Above all, you don't want to bore your reader. Try to keep your note brief. Two or three short paragraphs will do nicely.

Free Thank You Notes for Colleagues

We were surprised to hear about your plans to leave us. Things won’t be quite the same without you here. No doubt you are looking forward to the exciting opportunities and challenges ahead.

It has been a privilege to be your colleague for the past six years. Your keen wit and wisdom have positively impacted each of us. We wish you much success in the years to come.

Our team was both delighted and saddened by the announcement of your new assignment. The fact that you deserve this great opportunity goes without saying. However, we all hate to lose such an efficient and talented colleague.

Your diligence, patience and pleasing personality will be long remembered. It’s been a pleasure having you on the team. Best wishes, and keep up the good work.

Congratulations on your awesome new job! Pete mentioned it to me at the meeting yesterday. XYZ Corporation has made a smart move by hiring you to run their public relations department. I know that you’ll make a fine record there; as you have here.

I’ll miss you dear friend. Things won’t be quite the same around here without you. By the way, are there any more openings at your new company? Keep me in the loop.

Free Thank You Note for an Employee

We were very excited to hear about your new directorship at XYZ Corporation. You’ve been a great asset to this company for the last seven years. Though we will be sad to see you go, we are delighted with your success. You’ve definitely earned it.

At your request, we will no longer hold your position open here as of March 30. Thank you for staying on another month to help us complete the project in Alexandria.

On a personal note, I have enjoyed getting to know you these last four years. Your great work ethic, fine mind, and your integrity will serve you well throughout your life.
