Resume Thank You Letters for Job Applicants

postcard letters stamps

thank you notes for interviewers What are resume thank you letters, and why are they necessary?

Well, mainly, these letters help you go to the next step with your most promising interview candidates.

For example, let's say that you have an open position in your department or company.

After wading through a stack of resumes, you or your immediate subordinate has narrowed down the list of candidates.

Three to five of these stand out as primary candidate material.

Now, it's time to send out letters to these people to let them know that you appreciate their interest in your organization, you've received their information, and you'd like to interview them.

It's as simple as that.

Below, you'll find several examples of resume thank you letters that can be tailored to fit your needs.

Happy interviewing!

Dear _________________:

I have reviewed your resume and samples and would like to interview you for the graphic artist position in our corporate communications department. I have set aside time to meet with you on Monday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m.

If you prefer, I can also see you Thursday, May 13, at 2:00 p.m. Please call my administrative assistant, John Peterson, and let him know which day and time would best suit your schedule. If you are unable to meet with me at either of these times, he will try to accomodate you.

Please be prepared to discuss your background and design portfolio in detail, and how you think your skills will benefit our firm.

Resume Thank You Letter When You Have No Current Openings

Dear _________________:

Thank you for your interest in the Chicago Sun Times. Your writing clips and educational background are impressive. At present, we don't have any openings suitable to your experience and qualifications.

However, we expect to have several positions opening up at the beginning of the year. I would like to meet with you personally to discuss the kinds of assignments we will need covered, and learn more about your reporting background.

Please call my office and speak with my assistant, Marissa Beckham, at 555-5555 to make an appointment for some time week after next.

I look forward to meeting with you to discuss the possibility of our working together in the near future.
